A Palestinian report stated that Israeli settlers stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday, with the protection of the Israeli police. The Palestinian News and Information Agency (Wafa) quoted eyewitnesses as saying that “dozens of settlers stormed Al-Aqsa, from the direction of the Mughariba Gate, and carried out provocative rounds in its courtyards.” According to witnesses, “the occupation police stationed at the gates of the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque prevented a number of citizens from entering, which caused a decrease in the number of worshipers.” The agency stated that the raids coincided with the preparations of thousands of settlers to storm the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, to celebrate what they call the Torch Festival, noting that the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood has witnessed a complete closure since yesterday morning, and the Israeli authorities prevented movement within the streets of the neighborhood, to facilitate the movement of settlers after seizing the land. Opened areas in the neighborhood and were bulldozed in preparation for the celebration.
She explained that “the people feel extreme fear, especially since they are imprisoned inside their homes in the presence of hundreds of occupation police officers, and they are exposed to settlers’ provocations and attacks.”
