Several former foster children who lived in the Gelderland youth village of De Glind in the 1980s and 1990s say they have been physically or mentally abused and in some cases have been sexually abused. This is evident from a Thursday published research from Omroep Gelderland. Before that, the broadcaster spoke to forty former foster children, who all remain anonymous.
29 former foster children say they have been physically or mentally abused in their foster family in De Glind. They would have been kicked and beaten ‘to the point of bleeding’. The broadcaster also spoke with six former foster children who allegedly had been sexually abused by their foster parent and with various people who had been confronted with situations of sexually transgressive behaviour. According to the broadcaster, this was reported several times to the management of the youth village, but they rarely made a report.
Youth village de Glind is a village near Barneveld where 120 children who have been outplaced can be cared for in family homes. According to the broadcaster, the youth village has been trying for more than a hundred years “to give foster children a childhood as normal as possible within a safe, largely Reformed village community”. The former foster children the broadcaster spoke to called the youth village a “closed system” and a “us-knows-us culture in which you could trust no one”.
Pluryn, the healthcare provider in De Glind, says in a response that it does not know what happened in the 1990s. The care provider is now going to set up a special place where (former) clients and (former) family parents can go.
