There are two seriously injured and five seriously injured in the fire that broke out in an apartment building in the Manhattan area, according to CNN, quoting New York Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.
Fire chief Dan Flynn confirmed that this year’s 200 fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery for a small electric mobility device (bicycle, scooter, electric skateboards).
“We’ve only recorded six deaths this year because of these batteries that power small mobility devices,” Flynn told CNN.
He explained that the authorities believed that the fire broke out in an apartment whose occupant was repairing bicycles.
