On the Aguascalientes velodrome, 1887 meters above sea level in Mexico, considered one of the fastest tracks in the world, Alex Dowsett is unable to recover the Hour record. After 60 minutes, the 33-year-old Briton stops at 54.555 kilometers, 534 meters (just over two laps) from the record of 55.089 km that remains to Victor Campenaerts. The Belgian professional made it right here in Aguascalientes on April 16, 2019.
Who is Dowsett, pistard, cronoman and road racer, runs with the Israel Start up Nation team and at the Giro d’Italia he won the 2013 Saltara time trial and the Vieste 2020 stage. He made this record a world spot to encourage haemophiliacs like him to play sports. He used a 61×13 ratio (9.85 pedaling meters: Campenaerts 61×14) and a chain with a special gold treatment for greater smoothness. But he never managed to cross the 55km / h barrier. Delayed by 3 seconds already after 25 km, he finished 34 ”off Campenaerts’ lead. Dowsett had already been the Hour record holder on May 2, 2015, in Manchester, with 52.937km. A record that lasted 36 days, until Sir Bradley Wiggins canceled it in London with 54.526 km.
