Plans for the future
2025 promises to be theyet another year zero in the recent history of the Alpine team. The Enstone team is experiencing a difficult championship this year on and off the track and – after an infinite revolution in terms of engineers and management – is now preparing to significantly change its driver line-up. Esteban Ocon, who had been with the team since 2020, will leave the team at the end of the year and Pierre Gasly also seems eager to find other shores.
While waiting to understand what the fate of the former Red Bull and AlphaTauri driver will be, however, at least Ocon needs to be replaced and one candidate seems to stand out above the others at the moment: it is the young Australian Jack Doohan, son of five-time world champion in the 500 class of the MotoGP Mick Doohan. The person concerned – who in his career already boasts a second and third place in the standings obtained in F3 and F2 – has already declared several times that “feel ready“.
Open doors
In recent years, Alpine has focused on him the attention that was originally intended for Oscar Piastri, who later moved to McLaren, and for Doohan the right moment could really have arrived. Even the current team principal of the French team, Bruno Faminhas hinted that the son of art is a real candidate for the starting seat.
“I think Jack is definitely an option – said Famin during an interview with Sky Sports F1 – we are preparing it. It has a pretty intense testing program and we’re happy with that. Let’s see how it develops. It’s one possibility among othersbut it’s certainly a possibility.”. When asked if Doohan is the main favorite for the seat, Famin defended himself with the most classic: “No comment“.
