Luka Doncic is not having an easy start to the season from the perimeter. The Slovenian is at his lowest level since he landed in the NBA four years ago with a 23.8% of three. It had never dropped below 30%, peaking at 35% last year. Previously, 32.7% in its year of rookie and 31.6% in that of sophomore.
His shots, with his classic step backwards, don’t hit the target easily. And that could be observed in the game this Sunday against the Sacramento Kings: scored 1/7, 14.3%, his worst percentage in this first stretch of the campaign. Of course, the one he achieved was vital to put the fourth victory of the season on track and magical: from the Dallas Mavericks logo, almost from the line that separates both fields.
Aware of the problem
Luka Doncic (23 points, 1-7 3s, 2-6 FT): “More confident [from the logo] than all my 3s and my free throws. I don’t understand how that shot goes in and then all my normal shots can’t go in. I’ve got to work on those normal shots. ” https://t.co/yj9kwZyeu5

Doncic, who closed the match with 23 points, is aware of this problem. “Safer from the logo than with all my triples and my free throws (he hit 2 of 6),” he stressed after the win against Sacramento. “I don’t understand how that shot goes in and then all my normal shots can’t go in. I have to work on those normal pitches”.
The former Real Madrid player knows that Dallas needs his best version in a Western Conference that is a lottery, in which a losing streak can lead to play-in or even to stay out of the playoffs. Also, his imprint on the team should be even greater than in the past, if possible, because of the deep makeover (or rebuild) the Mavs are undergoing after changing coaches after 13 seasons with Rick Carlisle.
