The elected president of the United States, donald trumphas already chosen a part of what will be his Government team to undertake his MAGA (‘Make America Great Again’) project: Elise Stefanik, as the country’s ambassador to the UN; Tom Homan, new ‘border czar’, and Stephen Miller as deputy director of policy at the White House.
In addition, this Monday he placed the former congressman Lee Zeldin in Environmental Protection Agency portfolio (EPA, in English) and, last Thursday, named the shadow director of his campaign, Susie Wiles, 67, White House chief of staff for his second term, which will begin on January 20, 2025.
Homan62, former director of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and “faithful defender of border controlwill thus join the Trump Administration to take charge of our nation’s borders,” the president-elect himself said last night in a message on his social network Truth.
The new ‘border czar’
As the new ‘border czar’, Homan, who was already part of Trump’s team in his previous term (2017-2021), will most likely apply a strict border control policy.
Democrats have criticized Homan for his defense of Trump’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy on border crossings during his first term, which led to the separation of thousands of parents and children seeking asylum at the border.
On the other hand, the New York State Republican Stefanikto which Trump has offered the embassy to the UN, is considered a defender of the Israeli cause.
Stefanik, 40, will lead in the international organization one of the slogans that have presided over the Republican’s campaign: “America, first” and the messages in favor of Israel, according to the newspaper The New York Post.
As to Miller39 years old, is the ideologue of Trump’s immigration strategyas confirmed by vice president-elect, JD Vance.
“This is another fantastic choice by the president,” Vance said on the social network X, citing CNN’s news of Miller’s signing.
Miller served as an advisor to Trump during his first term in the White House, being the architect of his controversial immigration and border policies. The new position seems to indicate that his role will be greater in this second period.
It is also the architect of the mass deportation strategy of immigrants that Trump has promised throughout the campaign.
The fifth signing, Zeldin44 years old and a lawyer by training, was one of Trump’s greatest allies in Congress during the years he served in the Legislature (2015-2023) and in 2022 he lost the elections for governor of the state of New York.
The EPA administrator position has ministerial rank, so Zeldin will be part of Trump’s Cabinet.
Zeldin, for his part, promised in a message on the social network X to restore “the energy dominance of the United States.”
