In the days following the final of the Abu Dhabi GP, won by Max Verstappen on the last lap after an overtaking in extremis against Lewis Hamilton, the rumors on a possible withdrawal from the Formula 1 of the English of Mercedes have begun to circulate relentlessly: those who fear an actual abandonment of the seven-time world champion were however opposed by a part of professionals who do not believe in a premature farewell to the British champion’s sport. Among the major exponents of this line of thought there is also the President and CEO of the Formula One Group, Stefano Domenicali. The manager from Imola, interviewed by The Gazzetta dello Sport after winning the 28th Bandini Prize – together with Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola – he was in fact convinced of Hamilton’s regular presence on the starting grid for the upcoming World Championship: “I’m sure it will recharge the batteries – admitted the former Ferrari team principal – and will come back with even more desire than before to conquer the eighth title“.
Not even the most heated rival in the last season played by the English, that is the new world champion Verstappen, believes in the possibility of a Hamilton retirement: “We have been protagonists of great challenges, but there is still a lot of respect – said the 24-year-old a Servus TV – and Lewis has to come back. I thought about his words after the race, but I think it was a normal emotional reaction. Consequently, I plan to see him on the track again“.
