Dolphin Energy is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its operations, during which it imported the equivalent of 2 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman.
On this occasion, Obaid Abdullah Al Dhaheri, CEO of Dolphin Energy Limited, said: “This is an important achievement in our history, achieved with the support, vision and continuous encouragement of our leaders, in addition to the support of our governments, partners, customers, customers and the efforts of our employees.
The Dolphin Natural Gas Project was launched in 1999 as a unique initiative in the energy sector, within a strategic vision aimed at developing energy cooperation across the GCC. After nine years of planning, development and establishment of facilities, on July 10, 2007 the first batch of gas from Qatar arrived in the UAE, and in February of 2008 the project reached its full production capacity, followed by pumping gas supplies for the first time to the Sultanate of Oman. Amman in October of the same year.
The project, over 15 years of operation, has succeeded in achieving the following achievements: the transfer and delivery of 10.7 trillion standard cubic feet of natural gas; selling 485 million barrels of petroleum condensate in international markets; and production of 11.9 million metric tons of propane, 6.9 million metric tons of butane, 3.8 million metric tons of sulfur, and 18.4 million metric tons of ethane.
These achievements demonstrate the strong spirit of partnership and cooperation with Qatar Energy, which has played a pivotal role in the success of this project since its inception and their continuous support to this day. Al Dhaheri added: “We intend to maintain our role in ensuring the continuation of energy security in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, By continuing to produce in the safest way, maintaining the conditions of sustainability, and adopting the concepts and applications of effective digital transformation.”
Al Dhaheri explained: “In addition to the operational aspects of the project, the company is focusing on the Emiratisation strategy by recruiting and developing local talent. Today, we are proud that all senior positions in the company in both the UAE and Qatar are occupied by citizens of the two countries, and the Emiratisation rate in the UAE is 71% and in the State of Qatar 30%.”
As part of its commitment to social responsibility programmes, Dolphin Energy has sponsored and supported many important social programs and initiatives in the UAE and Qatar. Over the past 15 years, the company has focused on environmental protection and community development, and has forged important alliances with the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi, the Ras Laffan Program for Social Communication, and the Ministry of Environment of Qatar. It also cooperated with other institutions such as Qatar University, Texas A&M University, Emirates Foundation and many other institutions.
Ali Al Rahbi, General Manager of the company in Qatar, said: “Our strong commitment to protecting the environment and the communities in which we operate goes in parallel with our operational commitments. Its interest in social responsibility, growth and development.
Al Rahbi explained: “Our carbon emission reduction programme, which was launched in 2012 to reduce our carbon footprint and implement energy efficiency initiatives, is more important than ever. It will help the long-term roadmap to the pursuit of carbon neutrality.
Dolphin Energy Company continues to play its leading role in developing the sustainability agenda in both the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and the company’s sustainability strategy is in line with the national vision of both countries, as it always seeks to open lines of communication and cooperation with the concerned authorities in the companies that contribute to the advancement social, environmental and economic development.
Dolphin Energy has also been keen to release its annual report on its sustainability performance continuously since 2010, and is about to announce the latest results in its Thirteenth Sustainability Report to be published in August. For the fourth time, Dolphin Energy was awarded the Best Sustainability Report award from the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group. The new report once again confirms the company’s alignment with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, oil and gas industry disclosures, and IPIECA’s sustainability reporting guidelines.
Al-Rahbi concluded by saying: “Today we can be proud of our achievements and the long way we have come. In the future, our focus will remain on ensuring the safe and reliable supply of natural gas to our customers, developing our employees and preserving their well-being, and supporting the communities in which we operate.”
