The sightings of the first forklifts of Dodge Hornet have sparked the discussion around the new model of the American brand which will in fact represent a sister of Alfa Romeo Tonale. The crossover of the Stellantis brand will in fact resume the technical basis and various elements of the new SUV of the Biscione and as well as the model of the Arese car manufacturer just launched on the market, it will be produced in Pomigliano d’Arco, in the historic Campania plant. The Dodge Hornet story began way back in 2006, with a concept car that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. For a long time there was talk of a model with this badge but in the end nothing materialized until the birth of the new group led by Carlos Tavares, when the first spy photos of the American crossover arrived.
While waiting for the camouflage livery typical of prototypes to be abandoned, there are already those who have tried their hand at the first renderings that try to anticipate what the design of the new Dodge model will be. Based precisely on the spy photos, the Kolesa.ru magazine he imagined the final production version of the Dodge Hornet with some digital reconstructions excluded. In the images released online you can see a decidedly more aggressive design than the Alfa Romeo Tonale, with a generous grille in the lower front part and a similar but thinner element at the end of the bonnet that connects directly with the thin optical groups. The latter seem to be taken from some models of the Dodge family, such as the Challenger and the Durango.
The rear is less distinctive, where we find it an LED strip that runs along the entire tailgate. A stylistic choice made by several car manufacturers in recent times. Still no official information about the Hornet has been released but it is certain that this model will share several elements with the Tonale, starting from the range of engines. The entry level version of the Dodge crossover should use a 1.3-liter plug-in hybrid engine with a power of 272 hp, combined with a 15.5 kWh battery that should provide a range close to 70 km. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with 256 hp and 400 Nm of torque should be added to this variant, while a 1.5-liter light hybrid will be offered in Europe, as well as a diesel option. The new Dodge Hornet will be officially unveiled in the second half of 2022.
