Alfa Romeo Tonale will soon have an American sister. It is about Dodge Hornet, the compact SUV of the American brand which will trace the shapes and characteristics of the new Alfa model and which will presumably debut in August. The high-wheeled car of the Stellantis brand will be born in Pomigliano d’Arco, on the same lines where Tonale is also assembled and will introduce for the first time in the range of the Auburn Hills brand a plug-in hybrid model. While waiting to see this model without veils, the first road tests have begun, with the Hornet forklifts spotted several times with the usual camouflage livery.
The similarity between the two models is evident, as we had already anticipated several weeks ago when some photos were released showing a first prototype that appeared in a dealership. The name chosen for the Dodge model repeats that of a concept car unveiled in 2006 by the American brand. In the front then, the grille should propose a single solution that ideally connects the optical groups, a stylistic choice similar to that proposed on the Dodge Charger SRT and the Durango. The rear and interior, on the other hand, seem to fully follow what was done on the Alfa Romeo SUV. Beyond the design and place of production, the two Stellantis models will share the Small US Wide platform and presumably also different solutions of the powertrain even if it is difficult to think that the whole offer of engines will be identical.
Certainly there will be a PHEV version, with the 1.3 MultiAir turbo petrol engine combined with a rear electric motor and a 15.5 kW battery. According to rumors coming from the United States, the Dodge Hornet will be at the base of the range of the American brand, representing an authentic entry level. To confirm this, there would also be the prices that presumably will be much lower than those proposed by the Alfa Romeo Tonale price list.
