A man goes to the dentist – and shortly afterwards he has a screw in his brain. The patient has not yet received the money back for the life-threatening mistreatment.

A recent report from Turkey could fuel this phobia even further: A dentist at a private clinic in Bursa, western Turkey, wanted to insert a dental implant into a patient but accidentally drilled a screw into the man's brain, the Turkish news agency IHA reported. The 40-year-old had to undergo emergency surgery but survived.

According to IHA, the patient said he screamed in pain after the doctor drilled through his jaw. The doctor x-rayed the patient and discovered the error. The doctor then immediately drove the 40-year-old to a hospital himself, but then disappeared. The screw was removed and the patient was saved in an operation lasting several hours, IHA wrote. The father of two said he has taken legal action against the doctor who has so far refused to reimburse him for treatment costs.
The doctor had previously told him during the consultation that he was an expert in this field and had been practicing medicine for 24 years. The result of the preliminary examinations carried out in the private clinic showed that “my bone structure is thin and my teeth are loose, and that there is an implantation procedure,” the Turkish daily quotes Hurriyet the patient. The 40-year-old continued that he trusted the doctor.
