The complaint of the actor Mikhail Efremov is unlikely to entail the cancellation of the verdict in the case of a fatal accident. This opinion was expressed to the publication News.ru lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky, representing the interests of the family of the driver Sergei Zakharov, who died in the accident.
Assessing the prospects for the upcoming court hearings, Dobrovinsky called himself a skeptic and said that the complaint would not play a role in the artist’s life. He considers the arguments set out in it to be absurd. Dobrovinsky suggested that Efremov was unlucky with his lawyers and expressed regret at the drop in the level of their professionalism.
Earlier on August 4, it was reported that the court had set for September 15 the consideration of the cassation appeal against the verdict of Efremov, who was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. The artist’s defense indicated that he fully compensated the moral damage and repented of what he had done. The lawyers also emphasized that before the accident, the actor was engaged in charity work, received many thanks and state awards. In the colony, Efremov also received a number of awards for impeccable work and dignified behavior.
The prosecutor’s office opposed the possible mitigation of punishment for Efremov, stating that the court acted lawfully when sentencing.
The accident involving the actor took place on June 8, 2020 in the center of Moscow. It is known that Efremov was intoxicated at the wheel of an SUV. He drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a car driven by Sergey Zakharov. As a result of the accident, the driver was killed. The actor was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison.
