A day after its debut, the golden bull of the B3, the Brazilian stock exchange, was the target of protests this Wednesday (17th). The symbol, inspired by the Wall Street bull, is installed in front of the B3 headquarters, on Rua Quinze de Novembro, in the center of São Paulo.
According to a publication by the group that carried out the act, the protest is against hunger, social inequality, unemployment and the lack of opportunity for peripheral youth. The group posted posters on the Golden Bull, but the action took just 5 minutes to be stopped by stock exchange security.

Developed by artist Rafael Brancatelli, in partnership with economist and presenter Pablo Spyer, the sculpture weighs almost a ton and is five meters long. In a statement, the Brazilian stock exchange says that the sculpture “symbolizes the financial market and the strength of the Brazilian people”.
The bull is built on a tubular metallic structure with high-density fiberglass multilayers and high-temperature anti-corrosive paint and is 5.10 meters long, 3 meters high and 2 meters wide.

But why a bull?
In the financial market, the bull represents “optimism and the strength of investors”. It is believed that the origin of this metaphor lies in an expression used in the financial market to refer to the upward movement in shares, when prices are rising: “bull market” (bull market).
The Wall Street Bull is one of the biggest symbols linked to US stock exchanges and is located in Manhattan, New York. The American bull is 3.4 meters tall and 4.9 meters long. The 3.2-ton statue was created by Sicilian sculptor Arturo Di Modica.
Memes
The Brazilian version of the sculpture went viral on social media and has already become a meme. Check out some of the following publications:
