Disney +the well-known streaming platform of the US entertainment giant, is preparing to offer its customers one new form of subscription with lower figures. We remind you that, at the moment, following the introduction of Star, which has added dozens of films and TV series deemed “for adults” to the platform’s stock, the cost in Italy is € 89.90 per year or, in alternative, € 8.99 per month.
The confirmation came directly from Kareem Daniel, the head of Disney Media. These are his words:
Extending access to Disney + to a wider audience and for a lower price would be a win-win for everyone – customers, companies that invest in advertising and storytellers. More customers will be able to access our amazing content. Companies that invest in advertising will be able to count on a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their extraordinary work with more families and enthusiasts.
The move to implement a new subscription at a cheaper price goes, however, in contrast with the decision, which took place only a few months ago, to increase the cost to use the contents of Disney +. In this regard, the CEO of the platform Bob Chapek he expressed himself:
Sure, there have been a couple of price hikes since launch, and we’re extremely grateful for how the market has reacted to both. We have seen an improvement in our dropout rate. So we seem to be resilient to the increases and we do not rule out continuing to adjust the price upwards, given that the quality-price ratio remains very high.
These words, therefore, now sound as distant and past. The new subscription plan, which will be cheaper, will be active in the United States already towards the end of 2022. In the rest of the world and, consequently, in Italy, we will have to wait until 2023.
How was it possible to offer this price reduction? Simple: thanks to the insertion of advertising. Watching a few ads to pay less doesn’t seem like a tragedy at all, especially when you have a huge chunk of the world’s entertainment to offer your subscribers.
