The microtransactions of Diablo Immortal will prevent the game from being sold in Belgium and the Netherlands, but the developers firmly believe that these in-game purchases in the next free-to-play game are entirely optional and that “they never bypass core gameplay“.
“Optional purchases are always a bonus and never bypass core gameplay“said the lead designer Joe Grubb. “You still need skills to play in your class, you still need to know how to play with a barbarian to be successful. ”
Diablo Immortal offers a variety of currencies, a Battle Pass, and different types of boosters that can speed up Battle Pass progression or grant rewards, but Grubb says there’s no way to purchase equipment or experience points to level up. “One of our fundamental pillars is that ‘the best way to gain power in Diablo Immortal is to play’“, he claims.
The microtransactions “they are there for those who want them“, concludes Grubb,”but the game is designed to be accessible and completely free“.
