According to a statement issued by the ministry, the accident occurred this morning, Saturday, at about seven forty minutes (Greenwich Mean Time).
It stated that the Russian destroyer “Marshal Shaposhnikov” transmitted a message under the water ordering the American submarine to “rise to the surface.”
After its refusal, the destroyer used unspecified “means” to force the submarine “to leave Russian territorial waters as quickly as possible.”
The incident comes as the world is awaiting, today, an important phone call that will bring together Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Joe Biden, to discuss ways to avoid conflict in Ukraine.
The United States says a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine could happen at any moment, next week, while Moscow denies its intention to attack its neighbor Kiev.
