Return of Russian youth team not included in UEFA executive committee agenda
The first deputy chairman of the Association of the Belarusian Football Federation (ABFF) Andrei Vasilevich spoke about the support of Russian teams from foreign federations. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Vasilevich stated that the issue of admitting the Russian youth and junior national teams to international tournaments was discussed at a meeting of the presidents and general secretaries of associations that are members of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). At the same time, he emphasized that the issue was not discussed in the context of inclusion in the agenda of the UEFA Executive Committee, which will be held in Prague on September 24.
Earlier it became known that the Hellenic Football Federation advocated the return of youth and junior teams of Russia to international tournaments, but the president of the Ukrainian Football Association Andriy Shevchenko spoke out against it. It is noted that after this the proposal of the Greek side was not accepted.
Due to sanctions from the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and UEFA, the Russian national football team missed several major international tournaments. Among them are the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 European Championship in Germany. The Russian team is only playing friendly matches.
