The brand he led is hunting him down together with the Japanese judges, accusing him of improperly managing the money. But Carlos GhosnAlthough his relationship with his old carmaker has become waste paper over time, he still rides the Nissans of his era.
Recently Ghosn has been quite direct in comparing the Nissan current with that of its management: “They are back to what they were in 1999, sadly, after 19 years of work: a boring and mediocre car company, which will struggle to find its place in the automotive industry. We were building a system where this company would be part of something completely new with a lot of technical innovation“. But despite this, the executive protagonist of one of the most daring escapes in history still has a Nissan at his disposal.
In fact, in Lebanon, where he found refuge from the clutches of Japanese justice, Ghosn was photographed riding a Nissan Patrol of his era. So much so that it could be said that ‘his’ car is available, in the sense that it is the legacy of the management of the Japanese brand. The photo chosen on the cover of the article, in fact, portrays Ghosn and the Patrol in 2010, during an official presentation. Today the model is still very popular in the Middle East, where SUVs are as successful as in Europe and the United States.
The paradox is therefore curious. Perhaps others would have avoided leading the brand that put them in a corner of history; but Ghosn, evidently, is still very proud of the models launched from 2001 through 2017.
