The French national team began its preparations in Clairefontaine, the sports city designated for training the Roosters, to participate in the European Nations Cup “Euro 2024”, which will be held in Germany from June 14 to next July 14.
The team will play its first test match before the start of the tournament against the Luxembourg national team on June 5, which is an experience that provides the opportunity for the technical staff led by Didier Deschamps to reconsider the national team’s playing style, which star Antoine Griezmann described, during the last hours, as “annoying” and “boring and boring.” ».
This description prompted Deschamps to respond strongly and decisively to Griezmann’s statements, even though quite a few observers and football experts agreed with the player in his description.
Deschamps’ response came in an interview with L’Equipe TV, where he asked: Did Griezmann really say that? Has the national team’s playing style been annoying to him over all these years?
Contrary to what Griezmann said, and many observers supported him, Deschamps did not focus on the idea of “enjoyment and beautiful play,” but rather focused on the play practiced by his team, and the extent of its effectiveness and positivity.
He said: What is important is the final result, pointing out that it is necessary for the “Roosters” team to adapt and harmonize with the play of its competitors, and to be able to defend at the right time and when it loses the ball.
He added: This is not something annoying or boring. It is true that it is better to control the match completely, but that is illogical, because we are facing competitors who have strength and weight. So the issue is not boredom or annoyance, but rather a question of effectiveness and decisiveness, and when you have the ball more, that is the case. Better, but when you can’t do that, you have to be able to defend.
He commented sarcastically: We were the 2018 world champions in Russia, as I remember. Were we good or bad champions? We were heroes and that’s enough.
For his part, Jerome Rotten, the famous sports broadcaster and former football player, launched a violent attack on Griezmann, in his program “Routine is on Fire” on the Monte Carlo Sport network, due to the statements he made in a recent press conference in Clairfontaine, and chanted, saying: If this statement had come from a defender, perhaps the matter would not have caused me concern, but for it to come from an “important cadre” in the national team and its second captain after Kylian Mbappe, who is protected and appreciated, this is what surprises me.
He added: I don’t think the matter will go unnoticed by Deschamps, and commented: Under Deschamps’ leadership, the Roosters won a World Cup and reached the final of another World Cup, and now they are targeting the Euro, and it is natural that the players’ vision is the same as the coach’s vision.
