Sofia does not shine but closes at 1 “47 from the Czech, 10th Suter who remains at 65 points in the specialty ranking
An eleventh place to defend the Cup. Sofia Goggia finished the descent of Crans Montana in twelfth place, at 1 “47 from the winner, the Czech Ester Ledecka, but neither did her direct competitor for the specialty trophy, the Beijing Olympian Corinne Suter (tenth). and so Sofia still has 65 points ahead of Switzerland.
In recovery
–
Still struggling with the consequences of the injury in Cortina, Goggia is not even close to top form. Descended without ever forcing, she lost 4 tenths in the last 10 seconds of the race. Behind her – just like in the Olympic downhill in Beijing – is Nadia Delago, fourteenth at 1 “57, then Elena Curtoni 16a at 1″ 59 and then Federica Brignone (who was among the fastest in practice) at 1 ” 82. At 2 ”06 there is Nicole Delago. Further away Francesca Marsaglia (at 3 ”05). Elena Dolmen, Monica Zanoner and Karoline Pichler have yet to leave.
Ledecka masterpiece
–
At the Beijing Games she did not manage to double as she had 4 years before, but Ester Ledecka, Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding (parallel giant) went back to winning also on skis. In the very technical descent of Crans Montana the Czech was the fastest, getting the line right in the final to leave behind the Norwegian Mowinckel by 21/100 and the Austrian Huetter by 42. Fourth place for the Swiss Fest, which started with bib number 30 and closed at 81/100 from the winner.
It is the third Cup success for Ledecka, who in PyeongChang had won super-G and snowboard gold.
Another descent is scheduled for tomorrow, the last one before the Courchevel-Meribel World Cup finals.
