The pandemic has forced many doctors to use telemedicine to carry out visits and maintain contact with patients with skin diseases. The leap into the digital world, long awaited and accelerated by the health emergency, has experienced a boom among dermatologists and today it is becoming more and more a consolidated practice also in the treatment path for people with psoriasis.
“To contact patients with psoriasis, we dermatologists have used various tools, such as the telephone and e-mails, but also, and above all, television. This tool has been of great help to us: it has shown enormous advantages in relation to time of the patient and caregivers and also the immediacy with which some clinical problems can be resolved “. So Paolo Gisondi, associate professor of Dermatology at the University of Verona, director of the School of specialization and member of the board of directors of EADV (European Society of Dermatology and Venereology), in an interview published on the Aleati per la Salute website ( www.alleatiperlasalute.it), the portal dedicated to medical-scientific information created by Novartis.
The ‘remote’ visits even after the pandemic are favored by dermatologists, however according to the expert they are not the solution to everything. “In a follow-up context – observes Gisondi – television cannot be done forever, because in the doctor-patient relationship, telematic counseling needs to be alternated with a face-to-face visit in order to provide optimal assistance for the containment of anxiety and the resolution of any new problems “. In the path of care of the patient who has “a known diagnosis and is following a therapy already set up for his follow-up, television is very useful, while I would have difficulty in proposing it for a first visit on a patient I do not know and who perhaps presents a pigmented lesion that needs close eye contact in order to investigate better “, concludes Gisondi.
