Deportivo Cali struck first in the final of Colombian women’s football by defeating América in the first leg of the final, 2-1, to take advantage. The second leg will be played next Sunday at the Pascual Guerrero stadium, to define the new champion.
Cali was a timely team that struck at the right moments. The game had just started in Palmaseca, Cali pounced on his rival and found the first goal.
It was in a confusing play, in which the scarlet players were unable to reject the ball and the sugar players were unable to finish off, but finally it was Tatiana Ariza who managed to capture the ball after two minutes and finish off to put the green team to win.
América received the blow, was slow to assimilate it and although he tried to capture his game, which is of great offensive capacity, he could not find the formula for the tie. Starting the second part, the same thing happened. In just 4 minutes Cali struck again. It was in a free kick executed by Yorelyn Carabalí. The ball stung goalkeeper Natalia Giraldo and went inside, for 2-0.
But this time America did react immediately. Captain Catalina Usme pushed her companions so they wouldn’t collapse and the discount arrived very quickly. At 8 minutes came a corner kick, the goalkeeper Stefany Castaño came out to cut the center, but late and without decision, and the player Fabiana Yantén came forward to hit a header that meant the discount 2-1.
América went in search of the equalizer, with such decision that goalkeeper Castaño became a figure with a couple of very good saves. Cali, meanwhile, took advantage of the spaces to counterattack, with the speed of Linda Caicedo.
America was getting desperate and could not find the tie. Cali was effective, won and took a first step towards the title. But the final game is missing, on Sunday at the Pascual Guerrero, there the new champions will be known.
