Deportivo Cali achieved its first victory in the 2022-II League and came out of last place in the championship, defeating 2-0 sports grass, at the Palmaseca stadium.
Cali showed a different face in all aspects, in its best presentation since Candelo Mayer in front of campus.
The first moments were quite busy, in which the local cast managed to advance down the right side with Juan José Mina, who reached the final line, crossed and the ball hit Cristian Tovar’s arm, in which a penalty was awarded. Then the referee Luis Matorel was called by the VAR of Kéiner Jiménez, where after a few seconds of review, he reversed the decision.
The Caleños continued to maintain control of the game and at minute 12, they got closer again with a corner kick charge. Germán Mera headed in the center of the area and goalkeeper Diego Martínez sent it back to collect from the side. Three minutes later, Cali had the clearest with another header, but now Carlos Lucumi and stopped the goalkeeper.
Carlos Lucumí paved the way for victory
About minute 19, Kevin Velasco received in the center of the Pasto field, he distanced himself, advanced a few meters, enabled Lucumí in a good way, who had a bit of control, but managed to get the shot to make it 1-0 partial . Those led by Mayer Candelo, put together a very good option with a gig, but Lucumí lost the option only against Martínez. For their part, the Nariñenses sought to get out of that pressure, but they had difficulties to keep the ball.
At minute 35, Velasco played long, Theophilus Gutierrez He lowered the ball, assisted Lucumí who returned it with a taco and the Barranquilla player alone in front of the goalkeeper, defined for the second of the night. The volcanic ones tried to react again, but the sugar ones showed solidity. At the end the local had to make the first change due to injury, Aldair Gutiérrez entered and Mina left.
For the second half, Pasto made the first substitution, César Quintero entered and Víctor Arboleda left. In that complementary stage, the game was more dynamic with the Pastuso cast entering more into the game and the Caleños responding to extend the advantage.
The visit continued with the same intention, but the locals continued to stand up well in defense and tried to maintain more control of the ball. More substitutions were subsequently made; Yony González and Oscar Segura entered Cali for Carlos Lucumí and Daniel Luna. In Pasto, Yeison Tolosa and José Barragán replaced Facundo Ospitaleche and Jeison Medina.
Around 73 minutes, the Verdiblancos were left with one less player due to the expulsion of Fabry Castro upon receiving the second yellow card, after committing a foul on Tolosa. After the action, both sets make changes. He entered Cali Jimmy Congo for Velasco and Jonathan Perlaza for Facundo Boné in Pasto.
In the end, the sugar producers managed to endure with the man down and added the first victory in the current semester, also being Mayer Candelo’s first victory, against a team from Nariño that did not have the best of presentations.
