Deportivo 2021-2022 began preparing for the next season in Abegondo after almost two months of vacation. Borja Jiménez directed his first training session as a new Blue and White coach with a session that lasted for almost two hours with division between physical work and rounds. The big news was the presence of Miku after announcing the club early in the morning on Monday the agreement for the Venezuelan to continue one more year at Depor.
Miku wasn’t the only news regarding the weekend’s medical and physical tests. Héctor Hernández, once the quarantine is over that had to go through being close contact, was in Abegondo, although he did not exercise with the group. The one who did was Keko Gontán, also absent last Friday and Saturday. Conversely, Diego Rolan and Uche Agbo, whose future is far from A Coruña, still do not join the preseason. Nor was Fede Cartabia, who after passing the tests today has not been in Abegondo with the club’s permission.
Almost no homegrown players
In this first training session of the summer, in which the team already dressed in Kappa, their new signature for kits, there were eight new signings: Menudo, Mackay, Aguirre, De Vicente, Quiles, Lapeña, William de Camargo and Trigueros. Josep Calavera, like goalkeeper Alberto, is confined (possible positive, although the club has not confirmed it). The tenth signing, Colombian Elitim, will join next Wednesday after passing the relevant medical examination.
More discreet was the presence of homegrown players. The only ones who were in this first training session were Juan Rodríguez, which was already usual last season, and Ivan Guerrero. The latter is the only right-back under Borja Jiménez, since Valín will be out for a month. There was also the youth goal Hugo Ríos, given that Pablo Brea will still be out for two weeks and Alberto is confined. The team will exercise again this Tuesday in Abegondo starting at 10:30 am.
