You will be elected mayor on Sunday, in the continuity of the municipal team: what are the committed projects that you are carrying today?
Denis Oztorun We have a lot of projects, especially for urban renewal, already undertaken by the current mayor. We notably won a second ANRU plan (National Agency for Urban Renovation, which selects projects and loans, Editor’s note) to renovate our main social housing district, the Cité Fabien. It is a large project over ten years, with the creation of equipment such as a nursing home and a room for associations. We are also working on a sports complex project. On the other hand, we are launching a multimodal project, on which we have been working for several years with neighboring municipalities, which would bring together our autonomous port, a marshalling yard, and Orly airport: a large pool of jobs and ‘companies with an ecological side, since it relies on rail and waterways. The idea is to be the “back room” of the Rungis market.
What actions do you want to put in place in the fields of ecology and citizenship?
Denis Oztorun These are two full components of our project for the city. First, a climate plan, to adapt all municipal equipment, including roads. We want to create islands of freshness, plant trees, rethink mobility. Then, we see that the Republic is undermined, in particular by the financiers on the one hand, fascisms on the other, the rise of anti-Semitic and Islamophobic attacks. However, the lives of our fellow citizens are at stake. We want to open breaches, educate the population, set up training courses for citizens’ rights. And we plan to create an alert cell on the dysfunctions of the Republic, such as discrimination. We must bring together rather than divide.
What are the consequences of the health and social crisis for Bonneuil and how do you want to respond to them?
Denis Oztorun First, we note a disastrous management by the government, proof of this is with the masks, and today the vaccines: the State has resigned. In these conditions, we want to protect our population, we fought to have a screening center. We then have a whole system, and we want to make 2021 the year of new solidarities: support for dependent people, financial aid for families, community and cultural life. It is very important to bring the arts and culture to life, we set up artistic walks, for example. On the other hand, we have a system of vegetable baskets for students, aid to the canteen, support in connection with the Secours populaire and the Restos du cœur. It is essential: today we see people coming who are teachers, for example. The social crisis is exploding. The city will do its utmost for social support, with a budget of 57 million euros.
