The denaria platform, an organization dedicated to the defense of cash, has held today at the Congress of Deputies A day to value the importance of cash in our country and the obstacles and problems that currently exist to make use of it, despite being guaranteed by law its use. Javier Rupérez, president of the organization, has denounced “the existence of contradictory regulations that limit the use of cash, negatively affecting citizens and the economic stability of the country the day.”
Some words pronounced in the day ‘Financial inclusion in Spain: the cash as a safe and sustainable solution’, which has had round tables with representatives of parliamentary groups, associations and the public sector.
Denia, thus, has exposed various problems for the use of the ‘CASH’ in our country: «The cash payment limit of 1,000 euros in Spain, significantly lower than the reference of 10,000 euros established in the recent Directive for the Prevention of Lighting of Capitals approved by the European Parliament; the restrictions on the payment of rent according to Law 12/2023; or discrimination in fiscal deductions when paying in cash ». “And, despite the fact that the existing legislation obliges to accept payment in cash, Denaria said that, in practice, obstacles are still imposed on their use, especially from public institutions, as evidenced by the data received in the channel of complaints of the platform,” added the platform.
“While in Europe the importance of cash is recognized, in Spain restrictions are imposed without clear justification,” said Rupérez. Likewise, the president of the organization has indicated that the lack of harmonization in the regulations on cash payments within the European Union generates an unequal situation. «Of the 14 countries of the European Union in which there are no limits for cash payment, among others, In Spain the restriction of 1,000 euros hinders everyday transactions and leaves certain economic sectors at a disadvantage, ”said the platform. That is why Rupérez has claimed to review the regulations for payment limits in ‘Cash’.
Likewise, one of the central points of the day has been the relevance of cash in the context of national security, related to recent studies, stand out that Spain is one of the countries with the greatest exposure to financial cyber attacks. «The dependence on digital payments makes us vulnerable. A system failure can paralyze the economy, while the cash is immune to cyberbrains and guarantees the financial autonomy of citizens, ”said Rupérez.
Related to all this, the Association has called the Government and European institutions to take measures that protect the right to use cash and promote equitable and safe financial policy.
