In a number of European countries, the appearance of a strain of coronavirus “Deltacron” was recorded. This was announced on March 9 at a briefing by the head of the technical group of the division of emergency diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maria Van Kerkhove.
“He (the Deltacron strain of coronavirus. – Ed.) was identified in France, the Netherlands, Denmark,” she said, noting that the level of infection is still low.
The WHO representative also said that Deltacron was discussed by the organization’s experts at a meeting on March 7 in Geneva. It was noted there that this type of virus arose when subspecies of the Delta and Omicron strains were combined.
At the beginning of the month, on March 4, the WHO announced the number of detected cases of coronavirus in the world. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, 440,807,756 people have been diagnosed.
On March 2, WHO announced a 16% drop in the incidence of coronavirus in the world, and mortality, according to the organization, decreased by 10%.
At the end of February, the WHO representative in Russia, Melita Vujnovic, said that the pandemic could come to an end in 2022, but this does not mean that the virus will go away for good. The big outbreaks will end when the omicron strain “circles the globe,” she said.
In Russia, the incidence of COVID-19 decreased by 29.6% last week. As Anna Popova, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, said on March 9, a decrease in the incidence is observed in all age groups. At the same time, in 97% of all confirmed cases, the disease proceeds as an acute respiratory viral infection or is asymptomatic.
A large-scale vaccination campaign is underway in Russia. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Six vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, Sputnik M, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac .
