Will we be able to write a full article about the new DeLorean without Back to the Future to drag in as an easy approach? Or have we already lost? You’re looking at the new all-electric DeLorean Alpha5. It is the successor to the DMC-12 (which you know from that one film) and the second car from the American brand in more than 40 years.
The new DeLorean Alpha5 (just like the DMC-12) is designed by the well-known design house Italdesign. The Italian agency didn’t go all-out on the retro tour and primarily designed a modern-looking sports car. A pity, but due to the smooth design, the air resistance remained extremely low.
The slats on the rear window are a clear nod to the past, as are the truly gigantic gull-wing doors. The original DeLorean was not painted, but proudly displayed its stainless steel body. The new Alpha5 is simply executed in one color. It is not yet known what material the coach is made of, but we suspect that this time it is not stainless steel, but something like carbon fiber.
Specifications DeLorean Alpha5
The final specifications of the DeLorean Alpha5 are not yet available, but the American brand is willing to put a few estimates online. The 0-100 time will be about 3 seconds and the sprint to 88 mph (we won’t explain this reference; but it’s 141 km/h) will take 4.35 seconds. It should be able to travel more than 480 kilometers on a single charge thanks to a battery of more than 100 kWh.
The full unveiling with all the details is scheduled for August. The first 88 copies (just ask someone a little older to explain this number to you) will be a special edition and have their own NFT that you can use in the virtual world.
