In connection with the riots in the capital this year, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell has filed a charge sheet against 15 people. All of them have been part of the anti-CAA protests. The charge sheet also names former Congress councilor Ishrat Jahan, former Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain, RJD’s youth wing Meeran Haider. Six other accused including Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam have also been arrested in the case but their names are not in the charge sheet. The police will file supplementary chargesheet with their names.

Call records and WhatsApp chats become evidence
The Special Cell of Delhi Police filed a charge sheet in front of the Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat and told him that the call detail record (CDR) and WhatsApp chat has been trusted. In the 10,000-page charge sheet, the police produced 747 witnesses. The statements of 51 of them have been recorded under Section 164 (Statement before Magistrate) of the CrPC. As far as the allegations are concerned, apart from UAPA, a case has been filed against him in the provisions of IPC and Arms Act. In this, the police has kept the entire conspiracy related to the court before the court.

Evidence refers to the WhatsApp chat and riots of February 24. Through this, an attempt has been made to explain how the leading conspirators were inciting their people to violence in the field. The police in the charge sheet also said that on 8 January, Tahir met Omar Khalid and Khalid Saifi at the protest site in Shaheen Bagh. Then they also met in the PFI office in Jamia. According to the agency, Khalid Saifi provoked Tahir. Omar Khalid reportedly assured that he would get all help from the PFI for this. The police told the court that the investigation of the case was still going on and it would file a supplementary charge sheet.
