Declared in Segovia the emergency level 2 in the El Tejo dam for “danger of breakage or serious breakdown”

The Junta de Castilla y León has declared level 2 of emergency in the El Tejo dam, located in the Segovian municipality of El Espinar, after receiving a report from the Duero Hydrographic Confederation (CHD) that alerts the “danger of breakage or serious breakdown in the infrastructure. ”

Given this situation, the Civil Protection Plan of Castilla y León has been activated in the face of the risk of floods (INCHYL), with the aim of implementing prevention and protection measures for the population, goods and the environment.

The territorial delegate of the Board, Raquel Alonso, has constituted the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi), which will bring together the different administrations responsible for emergency management to coordinate the necessary actions.

According to the letter received by the Board on February 4, the CHD warns that “there is a danger of breakage or serious breakdown of the dam and cannot be secured with certainty that can be controlled by applying the available measures and means.” In this context, the emergency level 2 declaration allows the mobilization of more resources and the reinforcement of surveillance in the area.

The El Tejo reservoir was already being actions by the CHD, which began its emptying in mid -January as a precautionary measure. This operation is carried out without water shortage for the population, thanks to alternative supply sources, the Board explained in a statement.

The City Council of El Espinar has already restricted on February 7 the access to the recreational area of ​​the panera and the throat of the Moros River to guarantee the safety of citizens. In addition, he prohibited the collection of mushrooms and other activities in the vicinity of the dam.
