The death toll from a shooting at an Independence Day parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, Illinois, has risen to seven. This was announced on Tuesday, July 5, CNN, citing Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rothering.
A total of 39 people were taken to four hospitals after the shooting, according to an update from the North Shore University Health System.
The shooting at the parade in Highland Park occurred on July 4 during the celebration of Independence Day. The shooter fired 20 to 30 shots 20 minutes after the start of the parade.
Six people were initially reported dead and 24 injured. More than 100 police and FBI officers were on the scene.
Eight hours after the shooting occurred, the police detained the suspect. Robert (Bobby) E. Crimo III, 22, has been charged and police are still investigating. At the same time, it is not known how law enforcement officers identified Krimo as a suspect.
