Matt and Ross Duffer (for friends the Duffer Brothers), the directors, screenwriters and producers of Strangers Things, have created the new company Upside Down Pictures and entered into agreements with Netflix for various projects. One of them is one Death Note live action TV seriesfamous manga and anime written by Tsugumi Ōba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata.
As reported by Deadline, the priority of the Duffer brothers will be to complete Stranger Things with Season 5, of which the first details have also been revealed, but the duo has already made agreements with Netflix for a series of rather interesting projects.
As mentioned at the beginning, among these stands out a new live action series of Death Note, completely unrelated to the film adaptation released in 2017. The story of the original work is about Light Yagami, a boy who comes into possession of a mysterious notebook thanks to which he can kill a person simply by writing his name. Drunk with this power, Light decides to cleanse the world of evil as police forces around the world hunt him down. The manga was published between December 2003 and May 2006 and an anime series of 37 episodes was also drawn from the work. Both have been very successful, even in Italy. No doubt it will be interesting to see how the clash between Light Yagami and “L” is readjusted by the Duffer Brothers.
Upside Down Pictures’ other upcoming projects also include an original series by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Mathews (Dark Crystal – The Resistance), a small screen adaptation of the novel. “The Talisman” by Stephen King and Peter Straub from 1984 that the Duffers will make alongside Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Paramount Television, as well as the previously announced Stranger Things spin-off.
Meanwhile Stranger Things 4 is the second most viewed Netflix series ever, after Squid Game, totaling 1.15 billion viewing hours.
