A few weeks ago we talked about the various reasons for censorship in anime in different regions, from those with a high sexual content to other titles that made a high display of violence.
Although we don’t usually see popular anime targeted for censorship that often, it seems like Russia he decided to change that.
It turns out that in Twitter we found out thanks to otakucalendarJP that the court of St. Petersburg put on a balance how ‘potentially dangerous’ are anime like Death Note, Naruto, Terror in Tokyo, Tokyo Ghoul, Elfen Lied, Inuyashiki, e Interspecies Reviewers.
Especially for children who watch anime, it seemed that these titles were doomed to be banned in that country. However, the situation is not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
Only pirated anime sites will be banned … in theory
At first it was thought that the restrictions would not be so strict, since in the first place It was only planned to remove certain URLs on a couple of pirate sites that were broadcasting these animes; this in no way meant a ban on all Russia.
In accordance with Kotaku, the final verdict of this court in Russia censored two pages that distributed Death note and Inuyashiki, as well as a third that showed Tokyo ghoul. According to him Moscow Times this ban only impacts the mentioned sites.
However, part of the Russian community fears that when the verdict is made public, everything will turn out to be much worse and different from the original sentence, at least by the Russian censorship agency, Roskomnadzor.
The reasons for limiting the distribution of these anime are based on the fact that each episode contains ‘cruelty, death and violence’, and It worries that adolescents replicate this type of behavior seen on screen.
We recommend you: Do you think anime already has a lot of censorship? They reveal the most extreme censorship.
This is certainly not the first time that global anime fans have heard of such cases, with animes like Shingeki no Kyojin, Hetalia, Pokemon, Sword Art Online and Goblin slayer facing similar censorship lawsuits in various parts of the world.
Would you put in the same category of violence Elfen lied and Naruto? Let us know in the comments.
