According to the publisher’s release, Smith died Saturday at his home in Cape Town, South Africa. Smith was born in 1933 in northern Rhodesia, present-day Zambia. Author website a press release describes his death as “unexpected”.
Smith is especially known for his thrill and adventure novels on the African continent. Dozens of his works have been translated into Finnish.
In his career that began in the 1960s, Smith managed to publish nearly 50 books. The first of these was published in 1964 When a lion hunts (When the Lion Feeds).
According to the author’s website, his works have been translated into more than 30 languages and sold about 140 million copies worldwide.
