The Monkees has risen to world fame Michael Nesmith is dead, Rolling Stone magazine says.
“With boundless love, we announce that Michael Nesmith has moved from time to eternity this morning at home, surrounded by his family peacefully and for natural reasons,” the Nesmith family said in a statement.
Nesmith was 78 years old at the time of his death. His last live show was less than a month ago in Los Angeles.
In The Monkees, Nesmith became known as one of the “monkeys” who appeared in a green hat speaking a thick Texas dialect. Among other things, he wrote songs Circle Sky, Listen to the Band and Mary, Mary.
He also led a successful insurgency producer Don Kirshner against the background of the band’s strictly limited creative possibilities to influence their own music.
