Dead Eeles Landström, Olympic Olympic medalist and former Member of Parliament, has died

Stick jump Olympic medalist and former Member of Parliament Eeles Landström has died at the age of 90. He died Wednesday morning.

Landström won a bronze medal at the Rome Olympics in 1960. His sporting achievements included the 1954 and 1958 European Championships.

Landström was a Member of Parliament for the Liberal People’s Party from 1966 to 1972. Landström also worked in several management positions, such as the Deputy Director of YLE.

Landström participated in three Summer Olympics. He competed in the decathlon at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and finished 14th. Four years later, he was seventh in the pole vault at the Melbourne Games.

In Rome, a bronze medal was hung around Landström’s neck. It was Finland’s only athletics medal at the Rome Olympics.

Landström was one of the biggest athletics stars of its peak in Finland. He jumped the European record three times. Landström won the Finnish championship eight times.

Eeles Landström’s death was confirmed to STT by his brother Esa Landström.
