The team’s difficulties
The period that theAlpine at this start of the season is not particularly positive for the French team: in the first eight races on the calendar, the team obtained only one point in the Constructors’ championship thanks to Pierre Gasly’s 10th place in Monaco, a race in which the contact between the latter and his teammate Esteban Ocon. An episode that favored the divorce between the transalpine driver and the team, already made official and which will take place at the end of the championship.
Internal chaos
To this were also added the resignation of Technical Director Matt Harman and the Head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer last March, not to mention the recent exit of the Director of Operations Rob White. Upheavals that generated real chaos in Alpine, to the point that there were numerous offers presented to the Renault Group for a potential purchase of the brand owned by the French company.
No possibility of sale
The CEO of Renault directly confirmed these offers, Luca De Meowho however reiterated in an interview with Truck that Alpine is in no way for sale: “I want to be very clear. There is no chance we will give up – has explained – It’s not my style. We will not sell even a part of this project. We don’t need money. I’ve had people who have made offers left and right, and then they talked about it with the press. But we are not interested. That would be stupid and I will not do that“.
Keep working to get back up
De Meo, in addition, admitted that there have been some mistakes made in the last period and that Alpine therefore does not deserve a top position in the current conditions, but this does not exclude improvements for the near future: “Alpine should be one of the F1 teams with the broadest shoulders, because it has the support of Groupe Renault – he has declared – I don’t think we currently deserve to be a top team, but we are not in F1 to be tourists, so we have to work hard. Of course, we made mistakes. It can happen. But I think we did well to put F1 at the heart of Alpine and paint the car blue to represent a distinctive automotive culture. This brand is completely legitimate because it has always been in competition. But he can do much better and I don’t want to miss this opportunity“.
