AgCom, the Authority for Communications Guarantees, reserves the right to take “even urgent measures” to protect individual consumers if the inefficiencies in broadcasting football matches on the Dazn streaming platform continue. This is what emerges from the meeting of the Council of the Authority.
“As will be recalled last June 24, the Authority had adopted an act of guidance recalling all operators to the need to avoid, when football matches are being broadcast, an overload of the network, such as to block or in any case slow down the traffic of data from the generality of users, also compromising the performance of essential services “, reads the note from Agcom. “Following that policy act, Dazn has created a series of infrastructures that have contributed to avoiding network congestion to date. With this, moreover, the platform has accepted the Authority’s guidance and supervision”.
The Authority “continues the constant monitoring of the entire affair, which can represent an important driving force for the digitization of the entire country”. To date, the authorities said, two technical meetings have been held with Dazn and all the operators which will be followed by another on the 30th, after the second day of the championship.
The issues of the quality of the service offered to subscribers, the increase in information and the protection of individual consumers, and the equal opportunity of all operators to distribute streaming of matches at the same quality and speed conditions. Agcom therefore it reserves the right to intervene with appropriate measures, including urgent ones, where necessary.
