For more than nine years, David Holmes was in charge of making the risk scenes for Harry Potter, the leading role played by Daniel Radcliffe.
At the time, the actor was ideal for the role due to his similarity in height and build to Radcliffe. However, he never imagined that a bad stunt would leave him in a wheelchair forever.

The accident suffered by David Holmes
During the recordings of one of the last films in the saga written by JK Rowling, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1″, Holmes was rehearsing a scene in which he had to perform a dangerous stunt. In doing so he fell badly and broke his neck, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.
“My first thoughts were not about not being able to walk again. It was all the other things, like not being able to dance again or be intimate, ”Holmes reveals during an episode of his podcast“cunning stunts”.
It should be noted that one of the first people to visit Holmes in the hospital was Daniel Radcliffe himself, who, according to the stunt double, always showed himself to be a good friend.
David Holmes and his podcast “Cunning stunts”
Despite the accident that completely changed his life, the 41-year-old performer was able to produce a podcast called “cunning stunts” (in Spanish “Astute stunts”), in which he shares the experiences he had during the recording of seven “Harry Potter”.
During one of the episodes he had the participation of Daniel Radcliffewho used the space to denounce the lack of recognition that risk actors have and gave as an example the case of Olivia Jackson, who lost an arm during the filming of “Resident evil: the final chapter”.
“When you go through what happened with David or Olivia, or the many people we’ve talked to who have had serious things happen to them, you realize that everyone has put their bodies to the limit to do the things we love. It seems crazy not to recognize that. If you can’t see the art of a brilliant stunt scene, you’re just not looking hard enough. Stunt work is an art form, and doing it well and doing it safely is very, very difficult,” Radcliffe said.
Similarly, Holmes supported Radcliffe’s claim by adding: “We put our lives on the line for entertainment, so it’s a bit ridiculous when all the other departments are recognized and we’re not.”.
Recording the podcast has helped Holmes communicate everything that he had to go through after the accident, showing that difficulties have not stopped him from moving forward.
Despite the fact that the injury to his spine is getting worse over time, Holmes indicates that there are people who live much worse than him, for which he assures that he feels very lucky for the life he leads.
