The legal battle between Nexon And Ironmace Games for the publication of Dark and Darker continues unabated, with the small development studio having achieved a first victory over the multinational. The court in fact established that the Ironmace game cannot be considered in violation of Nexon's copyright, therefore rejected the request to block it, rejecting the prosecution's theory that Dark and Darker was developed using Nexon resources and violating your copyright. Essentially the evidence presented by Nexon was not considered sufficient to prove the company's case.
One small step
Nexon filed a complaint against Ironmace in April 2023, accusing the studio of stealing the source code and assets of Project P3, a title that was never released and was canceled in the process. Dark and Darker was then removed from Steamwith the developers accusing Nexon of using an anti-competitive bully tactic to destroy a small indie studio.
According to what Ironmace reported in an official statement published on its Discord channel, Nexon did not deliver Project P3 as evidence in court. Be that as it may, the legal case continues, with Ironmace confident she will prevail at trial, where her complete innocence will be proven.
Last year, the alpha version of Dark and Darker attracted more than 450,000 players, who downloaded the game via a torrent file provided by the developers. In August 2023 the game was released in early access thanks to the collaboration with Chaf Games. In the meantime, an agreement was also signed with Krafton, which will take care of the mobile version.
Dark and Darker is currently not yet available on Steam, where it will likely return only if Ironmace wins the lawsuit.
