With videoDanny Noppert received a 9-darter in the semifinals of the Belgian Darts Open. Dave Chisnall, who went on to win 7-4, performed the trick in the first leg of the match.
Chisnall immediately gave a strong signal with his 9-darter, because he immediately took Noppert’s leg with it. The Dutchman was unable to straighten that out. Chisnall threw very well with 103.89 average (Noppert averaged 99.6) and eventually won the match 7-4.
Chisnall will face Andrew Gilding in the final. He beat Jonny Clayton 7-5 in the other semifinal. Gilding was responsible for the elimination of Niels Zonneveld in the eighth final. Clayton had eliminated Dirk van Duijvenbode.
Quarterly lessons
Noppert had reached the semifinals by beating Adrian Lewis 6-3 in the quarterfinals earlier in the evening. Noppert previously defeated Madars Razma and Joe Cullen. Lewis knocked the Belgian Kim Huybrechts out of the tournament in the afternoon, to the disappointment of the Belgian fans. Huybrechts was previously responsible for the elimination of Michael van Gerwen.
Noppert managed to break Lewis in the fifth leg to make it 3-2, but Lewis broke back immediately. Since the Englishman had started the match, it was up to Noppert to break his opponent again. That worked, even twice. With no fewer than five 180s (Lewis threw only one), Noppert eventually went on to win 6-3. Dave Chisnall awaits in the semifinals, who won against José de Sousa tonight (6-2).
Eighth finals
Noppert already saved the Dutch honor in the afternoon. After Jelle Klaasen and Michael van Gerwen, Zonneveld and Van Duijvenbode were also eliminated in the eighth finals. Zonneveld was eliminated by Gilding a day after his stunt against Peter Wright and a little later Dirk van Duijvenbode had to acknowledge his superior in Clayton.
Zonneveld, 76th in the world ranking, experienced one of the best days of his darts life yesterday by beating world champion Wright in an exciting match 6-5. It was much more difficult against Gilding, who also caused a surprise by eliminating home favorite Dimitri Van den Bergh. It was still the same until 3-3, but then Zonneveld had to recognize his superior in the number 60 in the world: 3-6.
Then it was Van Duijvenbode’s turn, but he also failed to reach the quarterfinals. The global number thirteen, who reached the final of the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam last week and only narrowly bowed to Gerwyn Price, was kicked out of the tournament by Clayton. Last week, Van Duijvenbode beat Clayton in the semifinals in Amsterdam. Van Duijvenbode and Clayton played their best match so far in Wieze, both averaging over 105. The Welshman eventually finished with a glorious 141 finish, leaving the Dutchman empty-handed and losing 6-4.
