The children came to the Alfonso X El Sabio promenade this Saturday to meet their favorite authors and enjoy a double storytelling session
Molinense Daniela Serrano is 9 years old and is the youngest writer at the Murcia Book Fair. The author opened this Saturday a day in which children’s and youth literature felt the support of her demanding target audience. The writer presented in the main pavilion of the Fair ‘Mar. 1. The Ghost Cemetery’ (Blue Book Editions), the first of a collection of eight books written in just one year. Later, she signed copies of the publication at the Dokusou-Raspabook-Blue Book booth. A contact with numerous children and adults “very cool”. A Book Fair seen from another perspective.
“I don’t remember when I started reading but I know that my parents encouraged me because at first I was lazy,” acknowledges the author, who thanks her parents for their insistence. «At the end of August last year I started writing and I am already on my eighth book. I made a portrait of my sister and from that drawing I came up with the story of this book. I thought that if I wrote my stories and read them to me, my parents would not have to buy me so many books, because I read a lot! », explains the writer and illustrator, since all the drawings that accompany the story have come from her hand. «I like that the book has pictures because it helps to understand the text. If there is a child who finds it difficult to imagine the scenes, seeing the drawing makes it easier to visualize them”, says the author of a pampered work.
In the book, Daniela tells the story “of a girl named Clara who is very afraid of the sea, but her parents sign her up for a diving course and in the end she overcomes her fear and is encouraged to dive every day a little. She thus discovers things that … can no longer be told », explains Daniela, who is silent at the exact moment to avoid ‘spoilers’. The sea is the setting for this story and the writer, who lives in Molina de Segura, maintains a good relationship with water. “In summer I go to the beach a lot and I stay a couple of weeks,” she tells THE TRUTH without taking her eyes off the readers and friends who approach. «They are two classmates who have read the book and loved it. Nadia says that now, thanks to my book, she likes to read more », she boasts.
Poetry to honor Asensio Piqueras
The Murcia Book Fair paid tribute this Saturday to Asensio Piqueras, former director of the event, who died last spring, with a poetry recital. An emotional act at the Archaeological Museum coordinated by the journalist Juan Tomás Frutos with music by Flores Yepes, Aída Escudero, the trovo of Emilio del Carmelo and fados by Victoria Cava. His poetry was given away by Carmen Pérez Ballesteros and José Saura, among others.
“She does everything,” says the editor Asunción Martín. «Daniela writes her books by hand and writes very well. She tells a story that children can follow perfectly ».
Success of Maria Martinez
One of the most popular on the morning of the fair was Martina D’ Antiochia. The actress, ‘youtuber’ and writer is the author of the youth collection ‘Martina’s fun’ and this Saturday she signed copies at the Educania and LA VERDAD booths of her new book, ‘Capria. Awaken your magic ‘with which she begins a new series of adventures and mystery. The readers -mainly readers- accompanied by her parents made a large queue to meet this celebrity on paper and on the internet.
Readers like Mara, Isa, Eva and Alba, between 9 and 13 years old and from Lorca, who have slept together and have gotten up at 7 in the morning to live that exciting moment. On the other hand, the younger children enjoyed this Saturday with a double storytelling session by Mario Moya.
This third day of the fair featured a large number of authors, including a representation of writers from Calasparra, a guest municipality at the Murcia Book Fair, who passed through the booth of LA VERDAD, a space that also welcomed Mónica Rouanet, Guillermo Borao , Nando Abad, Emilio del Río and María Martínez. The latter, author of Lorca, brought together hundreds of readers who wanted to meet the person responsible for the paranormal trilogy ‘Dark Souls’ and the ‘new adult’ series ‘Crossing the limits’.
