The Spanish Pelayo Sánchez crowned a breakaway with two other riders and won the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia, which was run between Viareggio and Rapolano Terme, over 180 kilometers of route.
The stage was marked by a breakaway of six riders: Pelayo Sánchez (Movistar Team), Luke Plapp (Jayo-AlUla), Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal Quick-Step), Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team ) and Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè), who had more than three minutes of advantage over the field.
One of those who suffered a lot during the stage was Einer Rubio, who at one point was cut off, although he managed to regain his pace. His partner Will Barta suffered a fall that left him badly bruised.
This Friday the seventh stage will be run, which promises to be decisive for the general classification: a 40.6 kilometer time trial between Foligno and Perugia, with a flat section at the beginning and a tendency to climb at the end.
