DANA leaves heavy rain on the coast of Valencia but avoids the most damaged areas

Breath held this morning in the Valencian Community due to the warnings from the AEMET in the face of the new storm, which lowers the warning early this Thursday, which goes from red to orange in the region. For now, the DANA unloads mainly at points on the Valencian coast and avoids the areas most affected by the previous floods, which have already caused the death of at least 216 people. The rains have left up to 80 liters per square meter tonight in places like Cullera (Valencia).

The alert will likely remain active until noon this Thursday in 163 municipalities, especially on the coast and the areas most affected in the previous floods. The heaviest rains are concentrated in Cullera, where more than 85 liters have already accumulated and traffic complications are occurring in the streets on the mountainside. The focus, according to weather forecasts, is now on areas such as Huelva or Cádiz, after different towns in Malaga were flooded this Wednesday.

Mobility restrictions for private vehicles also continue in 20 municipalities, which remain in force until 6 p.m. this Thursday, as announced on Wednesday by the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI).

The areas most affected by that first DANA a little over two weeks ago, the Valencian regions of La Hoya de Buñol and l’Horta Sud, feared that if the heavy rains were repeated, the problems that many localities still suffer in their sewage and infrastructure could make you relive what you experienced that day. But, for now, they have not been very affected.

After a morning of significant rain in the region of La Marina Alta (Alicante) and La Safor (Valencia) and an afternoon in which the problems were concentrated in Castellón, a province in which the firefighters had to carry out nearly 70 interventions, in At the beginning of the night it rained occasionally heavily but without continuity in some of the towns affected by what happened a little over fifteen days ago, such as Chiva or Torrent. The same has happened in towns like Llíria.

The Rambla del Poyo is another of the places where the focus remains due to the overflow on October 29, which was the main cause of the greatest damage. According to data from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, in the four hours between 01:00 and 05:00 it has received 80.2 liters per square meter.

At around 2:00 a.m. a storm core formed south of Valencia, leaving rainfall in some coastal towns, although much of it occurred at sea. According to Avamet data, in Mareny Blau (Sweden), 45.2 liters per square meter have been collected in just one hour. Something similar has happened in El Perelló.

The mayor of Cullera asks citizens not to leave home

With the night already advanced, the storm cores have moved south and between 04:00 and 05:00 hours they have discharged about 44 liters per square meter at the AEMET observatory in Cullera. At another point, at the Inforatge station, 85.4 liters have been received, largely in one hour

The mayor of the town, Jordi Mayor, with a video in which you can see several flooded streets, has reported problems on many of the roads on “the foot of the mountain” and has asked “citizens” not to leave home. and do not take “any vehicle.” Rainfall has also been reactivated in Castellón and in points such as Suera and Alcudia de Veo it has exceeded 100 liters per square meter in the last eight hours.

The General Directorate of Traffic keeps the CV-137 roads in Cálig, CV-134 La Salzadella, CV-130 in Tírig and CV-130 in Albocàsser, all in the province of Castellón, closed as a result of this episode of rain.

Castellón, on orange notice

The State Meteorological Agency has raised the rain warning to orange level in the southern interior of the province of Castellón, where up to 40 liters could accumulate in one hour or 100 in 12 hours.

On the northern and southern coasts of the province of Valencia, the red warning – the maximum – remains in place until midday due to rains that could leave 40 liters in one hour or up to 180 in 12 hours, more likely in coastal areas.
