One can only wait and hope for Carles Falcón. The Spanish motorcyclist, in his second participation in the toughest rally raid in the world, was the victim of a serious accident during the second stage of the Dakar 2024, in which he suffered a fracture of the C2 vertebra and following which he was resuscitated on the spot by the race rescue staff.
In the following hours, arrangements were made for his transfer to the Riyadh hospital to treat the vertebral fracture, but for the moment the doctors have decided to wait for the cerebral edema he suffered in the accident to be absorbed, as was explained in a note released by the team on Monday evening, which also revealed the existence of further injuries.
“Last morning Carles Falcón was admitted to the Riyadh Hospital in the intensive care unit. He remains in an induced coma while the doctors continue to carry out the tests required by the protocol”, explains the statement.
“For the moment, the operation on the fracture of the C2 vertebra has been postponed because the current priority is to reduce the cerebral edema. This Monday the doctors confirmed other injuries: fracture of 5 ribs, the left wrist and the clavicle.”
“Carles is accompanied by his team – Isaac, Aleix and Carla – very close friends who offer him the support and affection he needs at this time. His family is in constant contact to follow his evolution while waiting to be able to go to Saudi Arabia to be close to him”.
“Family and friends thank all the messages of support received. We will continue to keep you informed as soon as there is any news,” the note concludes.
