Nani Roma is about to face the most important race of his life. A few days ago the Spanish rider, two times winner of the Dakar, discovered he had a tumor and announced it today with a video published on his official pages of the main social networks.
Roma, driver of the Bahrain Raid X-treme team, fortunately stated that the bladder cancer he was found is treatable and that the prognosis is good.
“A few days ago I had back pains and went to the hospital. The doctors found some tumors in my body. It was hard when I heard that word, but it’s reality.”
“After the prognosis the doctors have analyzed everything and, in the end, it is a problem that may have a solution. Now I will spend a few months away from rally cars, away from competitions, fighting against this problem.”
Rome will have to undergo the first cycle of chemotherapy and will start in a couple of weeks. Later he will be the subject of an operation in which the doctors will remove the tumor mass. Despite this period, which will presumably be very hard, Rome has made it known that he will continue to train with his team and will follow the dictates imposed by the doctors.

“The plan is to continue with an intense training program, to fight against cancer before and, after chemotherapy, to get back in the best possible shape.”
“This is life and sometimes life presents you with nasty surprises. But this is reality. We are in a good situation, we have the best technologies for this type of cancer. This means that I am very optimistic and I will be back.”
Nani Roma is one of the few drivers in the history of the Dakar to have managed to win the most famous rally raid in the world in both the Motorcycle and Car categories. In 2004 he won on two wheels riding a KTM LC4 660R with 2 stage wins. In 2014, however, he managed to triumph in the Car category at the wheel of a Mini All4 Racing of the Monster Energy X-Raid team.
In the last Dakar, Rome did not go beyond the 52nd place at the wheel of the Hunter prepared by Prodrive and managed by the Bahrain Raid X-treme team. The previous year, however, the native of Folgueroles had finished the event in the Top 5, in fifth place.
