The Italian car market LPG it is relatively solid compared to all car registrations. In fact, while sales in February fell in general, LPG cars are even on the rise compared to last year. Since the beginning of 2022, approximately 3,700 more cars have been purchased by Italians, a factor that positively contributes to the positioning on the market of some specific brands.
The Renault group has long been the leader in the LPG segment, especially with the Dacia brand. In 2022 the models Sandero and Duster they have such an advantage over the others that they are already planning a home duel for the record at the end of the year, although there are several months to close the accounts. Sandero is currently 350 units ahead of the Duster, 3,975 units registered against 3,625. Behind them are Captur and Clio, and over 1,500 cars sold only the Fiat Panda (whose increase compared to 2021 is very good, with the prospect of overtaking Clio).
In the background, the Hyundai-Kia group has to contend with the rise of DR Motor cars. In February, LPG made a major contribution to the brand’s performance, with the DR 5.0 model exceeding 300 registrations.
Going back to Dacia, what final result would be appropriate for the Romanian brand to make its efforts more profitable in this segment? Certainly, if you bet more on Duster, the profit margin would be higher, thinking in particular of the more equipped versions that reach 20,000 euros. The price list in fact gives substantial differences between Sandero and Duster, with the former cheaper than the latter in all respects, not only in terms of price but also in terms of the overall quality of the vehicle. A win by Duster could give an additional chance to Luca De MeoCEO of the Renault group, to demonstrate that at present customers are more willing to pay for a top of the range, with more accessories, rather than a basic version.
