Czech Customs has dismantled a large illegal cigarette factory. During the raid in the east of the EU member state, components for the production of more than 44 million cigarettes were seized, the authority announced on Monday.

During the raid in the east of the EU member state, components for the production of more than 44 million cigarettes were seized, the authority announced on Monday. In addition, around 5000 finished glow sticks and large amounts of cash in euros, Czech crowns and Polish zloty were discovered. Six people of Czech and Ukrainian citizenship were arrested.
According to the information, the damage caused by escaped tobacco tax is likely to run into the millions. The production plant was able to produce around 2000 cigarettes per minute. The forgeries were reported as branded products. In order to avoid detection, the whole hall was soundproofed. The workers would also have had their accommodation in the illegal factory. The search took place near Frydek-Mistek in the Moravian-Silesian administrative region. (dpa)
