Prague – After a controversial debate, the Czech parliament has extended the legal basis for the Corona measures. The House of Representatives overruled the Senate on Friday, which had previously rejected the bill. The so-called pandemic law allows the Minister of Health, among other things, to close shops and service companies or restrict leisure activities. The previous regulation threatened to expire at the end of the month.
The liberal-conservative government is nevertheless planning further easing. “I want us to be able to celebrate normal Easter like before Corona,” said Health Minister Vlastimil Valek. Masks are currently still compulsory indoors. Upon entry, foreigners must fulfill registration, test and documentation requirements. The number of participants at events is limited.
According to current figures, there were 1,126 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the Czech Republic within seven days. More than 3,700 patients who tested positive are being treated in the hospital. The EU member state has around 10.7 million inhabitants. (dpa)
